Mythological Significance

According to legend, the temple’s origin is linked to the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Arunasura:

  • Arunasura obtained a boon from Lord Brahma that no two or four-legged creature could kill him.
  • He wreaked havoc on Earth until Goddess Durga took the form of a rock (Udbhava Linga).
  • When Arunasura tried to crush the rock, an army of bees (neither two nor four-legged) emerged and stung him to death.
