Deepotsav is a festival of lights held in Ayodhya ahead of Diwali which is celebrating the return of Lord Rama to his city after 14 years of exile. Over the years it has grown into a major cultural and spiritual event with millions of lamps (diyas), processions, performances and light-shows.

Ayodhya Deepotsav Dates & Main Event
- The festival will run from October 18 to October 23, 2025.
- The main lamp-lighting ceremony is set for October 30, 2025, on the ghats of the Saryu River (especially Ram Ki Paidi) and other key ghats.
- Activities begin in the late afternoon and go into evening hours, with cultural performances during the day.

Number of Diyas & Records
- In 2024 Ayodhya set two Guinness world records: first one for lighting 2,512,585 diyas which is similar to 25.1 lakh and another for mass “diya rotation” which was done by many people who are mainly pilgrims.
- For 2025 the aim is to light 26 lakh (2.6 million) diyas across 56 ghats surpassing last year’s numbers has become to the main one.
- More than 33,000 volunteers are expected to participate in arranging and lighting the diyas.
- A Maha Aarti involving over 2,100 participants is also planned.

- There will be Ram Leela performances like the dance and music programs and parades which is Shobha Yatra invoking the Ramayana.

- Each diya block the area where lamps are placed will have 4.5 square feet per block with 2.5-foot wide paths for devotees to walk through.
- The ghats are being cleaned marked and prepared in advance.

- A mock drill is scheduled on October 18 to test all systems.
