Kamakhya temple is another famous Hindu temple situated at Guwahati in the state of Assam. It is a temple devoted to the Goddess KamaKhy or Kamakhya who is form of Shakti. The temple is located on the Nilachal Hill and it is one among the oldest of the 51 Shakti Peethas. The temple is most popular due to the Ambubachi Mela held in June every year. It is a festival of the year course of menstruation of the goddess that signifies fertility. This happens when the temple opens after a three days shut and thousands of devotees flock the temple on the fourth day.
Kamakhya Temple is famous for its beehive shape ceiling of the temple complex in the present structure. The inner sanctum houses a natural spring believed to indwell with the spirit of the goddess, or the Divine. There is no image of the deity here as in most idols, but a sculptured yoni – the sacred organ – is normally worshipped.The temple’s timings are from 5:From 30 AM to 1 PM and from 2.30 PM to 10 PM for every day of the week.
